As chairman of the Hollywood Walk of Fame Selection Committee and host of the dedication ceremonies I have witnessed, firsthand, the reactions of those honored with a star. Whoever says that celebrities are intolerant and unappreciative of their fans would believe differently if they could see these famous folks as their names are immortalized on "The Boulevard of Dreams." It is a fascinating experience. They are, after all, just people, like you and me. |

| The Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Hollywood sign are the most famous and popular public symbols of a community that has brought unprecedented entertainment and happiness to the world. The renowned Walk, now celebrating its 45th anniversary, has had some unforeseen problems that have resulted in a significant number of the original starts requiring repairs or complete replacements. |

| For more than 16 years, the terrazzo remnants of the various original, dedicated star landmarks have been collected and stored. This has resulted in a unique opportunity for collectors and fans. Everyone wants a piece of a star. And now it is actually possible to own very "Limited Editions" of products containing terrazzo "Stardust" from one's favorite personality. |

| No doubt about it, the Walk of Fame's street-level monument to our industry's most celebrated and illustrious has been instrumental in making Hollywood Boulevard the most famous thoroughfare in the world. As one of Hollywood's most popular tourist attractions, the Walk of Fame is a proven winner. It was a visionary project created by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce more than four decades ago. The first stars were dedicated in 1958 The Idea was to honor the celebrities, bring back some of the glamour and excitement of Hollywood's "Golden Years," showcase the names of more contemporary entertainers, sharing all of them with the fans, and to increase tourism and business along Hollywood's main street. It has done all of that and a great deal more! |

Of all the roles - actor, producer, TV host, newsman, special event producer and mayor - I have played in Hollywood for more than 50 years, this particular assignment has been a most gratifying experience!
I hope that each of you will have an opportunity to stroll along the Hollywood Walk of Fame and experience one of the greatest attractions in the world. |
